My first serious experiences of farming started a few months ago and I've invested may be a dozen hours in it. I'm close to my first 100k now, all by casually playing (I'm starting to think that I'm spending more time on GWG, I have to stop!).
We should think about LS in terms of group, though it won't encourage PUGs it may bring back a little bit of fun into the game, by avoiding the "you have to spend time to get it" factor.

I can say one thing... If LS were removed I wouldn't buy your 15^50 Inscription for 50k then either. Nor would anyone else. The reason those and so many things are cheaper now has more to do with the veteranship of the playerbase, availability of items by playing and the lack of a real need for them than it is LS. Supply and demand. How often do 'you' buy ruins these days? I know I rarely need to buy them anymore. You have 200k in storage today, LS is removed and you have... 500k in a month. Would you buy a Victo's Axe for 100k in a month because you have 300k more? No, because you already have three of 'em and so does everyone else! When you find someone that does want to buy it they surely won't pay you 100k even if they have it - because that would be stupid.
You know, I don't really care about LS for myself. I've gotten over it long ago really. My real concern is about changes made "for the good of the game" that actually get people leaving in groves as opposed to drawing them in. Even for people that play mostly by themselves, more people ingame is better. I'm just hoping that there are more changes in the future that draw people in and keep them logging in. That's what's good for the game.

Just curious about a few things. I understand that soloing is harder to accomplish that going out in a group of 8 people. What I don't understand is why would drops from monsters differ--meaning would you actually equip a different weapon or item because you were going to face an unknown number of opponents. The monsters aren't supposed to know whether they will face 1 opponent or 8 people. Are they?
Money is such a BIG issue with the game... I mean the drops soloists like (myself included mind you) are liked due to cash or rarity (skin or otherwise).
When you solo, the drops are not split among 8 people, the soloist gets them all (some reward over having a party of 8--but not "what it used to be"). In effect, if you got 8x what a single person in an 8-man team got, you still have some reward.
I have run up some funds, and I have to admit that when I do, I ... don't know what to do with it all... I end up giving stuff to others (alliance members or not) simply because .. "What am I going to do with it? Make another xxk?"
I guess I am now looking at why I solo rather than the rewards I get for doing so. Seems to me that I, at least, like the new solo build since I don't stick with any single solo build for very long...
With that, I guess I don't really care whether they alter the drop rates since I am not playing for drops... Yes, I do know that is odd...

"....Finally, you can make everyone happy, but you can’t make everyone happy all the time. It is risky to try to make decisions that appeal to all players equally. Don’t fall into the trap of making decisions based on what causes the least amount of pain, because this can lead to a game that is just kind of “okay” and doesn’t really excite anybody. When you have a large, active, and passionate player base, every decision you make, every change to the game, no matter how convinced you are that it makes the game strictly better, will piss someone off, and they’ll post about it, blog about it, rant to the press about it, loudly and publicly predict that this is the “beginning of the end” of your game, and send hate mail to your community and support teams. MMO developers have to have thick skins, but always remember that if one of your players is angry with you, it is because he really cares about the game, and that’s much healthier for you than apathy. Go with your instincts and make the right decision for your game..."

HELL YES /very much signed!!
I'm playing less and less, bored with it, and more busy in RL etc. There still a few weapons and armours I'd like to get for my characters and farming gold for all my purchases is taking ages and further putting my off the game.
Really used to enjoy grabbing my warrior and farming some minos for 10 mins to get to get some quick gold. (not the best spot I know but you get the idea.

Your point being....? It's not the devs that are pissing me off right now, it is the players.
The truth of the matter is, I can't see this happening. What incentive do they have? It's not like its a new feature....you guys have lived a long time without it, and it is also the truth that no one will really know how a LS-less world would affect the economy. All I can see in LS is inflation...

I enjoy solo farming, that is why I do it. I dont have very much money at the moment, but if I am not going to have fun doing something, I wont. Plain and simple.
All A-Net needs to do is read this thread to find that the overwhelming response : RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO yes!

The reason we're having the conversation, Zorgy, is determine if this would be better or worse for the game overall, much like ANet and their situation regarding if they should implement heroes or not.

I was pondering about this issue and was gong to start a thread about discussing the same thing yesterday. I've got gold and haven't ever been poor more than a few times due to the fact I was lazy when it came to farming.
My stance is /signed (even though Anet likely won't do this). Lets face it, after you beat this game and done everything there is to do, what else is there besides PvP? Well for those with no interest in PvP there's farming of course. Getting nicer vanity items just for the hell of it because you can actually appeals to many people in this game.

Well, it seems that a lot of people are still arguing over LS (good, not good or just plain stupid) but i think we're missing something here. This has been a hot topic ever since the day it was instated and how long has that been for? A year, a whole 365 days of nothing but criticism, complaints, arguments and debates.
I'm not sure how Anet intends to run it's business but having such a highly debated, hot button issue around for a year is not great customer service. If LS is good or not for the community is and can remain to be debated but if it continues into and beyond Guild Wars 1 (Yes, I'm looking at you GW2!) then it will only continue a downward spiral of unpleased customers and less players.

We must wait, unfortunately, until we eradicate the bots. Remember, the reason was dual when loot-scaling was introduced...
If they are, then we can discuss changing LS. Otherwise, the bots win, and we would want that, would we?
One thing I realized is exactly how many people really like the non-LS world. I almost feel bad for liking LS....but the problem also lies somewhere else: HM. What will happen to it (will it remain the same)? If it does, it won't change me from merchanting req 12 elemental swords, that's for sure.
There are also a lot more hot-button issues in GW than just LS, but hopefully GW2 will be made with the right perspective on how to make a game that everyone will love. Maybe that's why WoW does so well......*wonders

The real point of Loot Scaling was to kill bots.
Since then, GW has come up with new ways to stop bots (like last night's update).
Even with all those bots, I remember the economy being in MUCH better shape back before Loot Scaling.

I say no. There are quite a few farming builds that give around the same quality loot as older builds did before Loot Scaling. If loot-scaling is removed, those builds and spots will give BETTER loot (Which I don't mind, since I farm quite alot), which will in turn harm the economy with an influx of merch fodder being sold to the merchants, generating more money.
